Companies are recognizing that employees are their biggest asset. A study by Aon showed that organizations with high levels of engagement (65% or greater) continue to outperform the total stock market index and posted total shareholder returns 22% higher than average in 2010. On the other hand, companies with low engagement (45% or less) had a total shareholder return that was 28% lower than the average. In other words: engagement and satisfaction drive performance.

But despite increased spending in organizational management or leadership development, corporations and employees seem to suffer from the same diseases all around the world: lack of engagement, void of leadership, unfulfilling careers, office politics and the list goes on. Just 13% of employees worldwide feels engaged at work (Gallup, 2012), and 77% of companies do not feel they have the skills to address this issue (Deloitte, 2014).

Unfortunately, performance review and evaluation systems, competency-based training and traditional team-building activities or old-style coaching often fail to bring about tangible and permanent changes. The reason? They focus only on the surface level of the human being: behaviors.
